I'm about to put my mother on a plane, bound for London for the next 10 or 11 days. While I was double-checking the weather for her, we started talking about how she didn't have any plans yet. She's meeting my father, who's been working over there for a couple of weeks, and will be there til almost the end of April. We went over some of the museums she could go to, and the parks and neighborhoods she could wander, when she said they might go to Paris and she wants to go to Stonehenge. My eyes watered up; tears of envy. It's a little silly to be welling up at the prospect of someone ELSE'S trip, but that's what I was doing. You see, I had big plans for my 30th birthday. Plans that involved Paris. As many plans do, they dissolved with reality. That's why we have to be flexible, right? Because life intercedes and ruins your plans. Besides, my passport is full to the brim and needs to be renewed. I do have plans to get to Europe this winter, but London and Paris in springtime? Oh dear, I might have something in my eye again...
I've been yearning for Paris lately, too. Springtime and reading about the Middle Ages invariably have that effect on me.
